Brandon was born January 31, 1986, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. His family moved up to a small town in Northern California named Grass Valley. Brandon first started playing music seriously when he was 17 at church. This is one of the places were he found his love for playing on stage.

In his junior year he joined the choir at Bear River High School lead by Cherry Hayes. Taking what he had learned he moved down to Newport Beach on July 1, 2005. Over the years, he learned to write his own songs and music. When it came time to making a band, he turned to the ever trustworthy Craigslist to find local musicians. That is where he found Josh, Maurice, Shawn, and Justyn to create The Brandon Ummel Band.
